Severe rain and wind weather is affecting southeastern United States and southern Mexico

On October 8, 2024, 08:00 Beijing time, Hurricane "Milton", a Category 5 hurricane in the North Atlantic, was located about 830 kilometers to the west of Havana, Cuba (at latitude 21.9 degrees north, longitude 90.4 degrees west). The central pressure was 897 hPa, with maximum sustained winds exceeding 17 levels (80 m/s, equivalent to the super typhoon category in China). "Milton" is expected to move towards the east-northeast at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour, with some further intensification.

Affected by "Milton", the southeastern United States, southern Mexico, and the western coastal areas of Cuba are expected to experience heavy rain and stormy weather over the next three days. Florida will see heavy to very heavy rain, with locally extreme heavy rain; parts of the Gulf of Mexico will have winds of 12-14 levels, with gusts reaching 15-17 levels. The sea and areas near the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico will experience storm surges.
