Heavy Rain Warning for Panama Over the Next Three Days
Over the next three days, influenced by a low-level vortex shear (Figure 1), Panama will see moderate to heavy rain, with torrential rain in parts of the west and south. Accumulated rainfall is forecast at 10–45 mm, reaching 50–70 mm in isolated areas (Figure 2). Precautions are required against secondary hazards triggered by localized heavy rainfall — including flash floods, landslides, rock collapses and debris flows — which may threaten rescue corridors and shelter sites, as well as against disruption to air corridors caused by rainfall-induced low visibility. Meanwhile, river levels in the earthquake-affected area should be closely monitored for anomalies such as flow cutoff and increased turbidity, and risks of barrier lake formation should be investigated.
