Nepal, India, and the Indochina Peninsula Will Experience Severe Winds and Heavy Rainfall

Over the next three days, influenced by the Bay of Bengal storm and a monsoon depression (Figure 1), Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and most of the Indochina Peninsula will experience severe wind and rain weather. Among these areas, most of Nepal, northeastern India, southwestern Sri Lanka, southern Bangladesh, Thailand, and Cambodia will see heavy rain to intense downpours, with extremely heavy rain in localized areas. Accumulated rainfall in the aforementioned regions will range from 80 to 150 mm, with some areas receiving 180 to 220 mm. Locally, totals may exceed 250 mm in western Nepal, central and northern India, southern Thailand, and western Cambodia (Figure 2). Additionally, winds of force 4 to 5 are expected in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, while coastal areas will see winds of force 6 to 7 with gusts reaching force 8 (Figure 3). Precautions should be taken against potential secondary disasters such as flash floods, landslides, and debris flows triggered by the heavy precipitation.
