Southern Australia to Experience Strong Winds and Rainfall
It is forecast that from June 21-24, influenced by a low-pressure vortex and a surface cold front (Fig. 1), southern Australia will experience winds of 5-6 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 7-8. Coastal areas of South Australia and Victoria are expected to see gusts reaching 9-11(Fig. 2). The system will also bring light to moderate rainfall to southeastern Australia, with localized heavy downpours (Fig. 3). Following this event, eastern Australia is expected to experience a significant temperature drop of 4-6°C between June 24-25. This weather event is characterized by exceptionally strong winds with potentially extreme impacts, requiring heightened attention to its adverse effects on critical infrastructure including power facilities, transportation networks, and construction operations.
