Heavy Rainfall in India and the Indochina Peninsula

Influenced by the southwest monsoon and a tropical disturbance (Figures 1 and 2), heavy to intense rain is expected over the next three days across central and eastern India, southern and northeastern Myanmar, eastern Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and northern Vietnam, with localized heavy downpours in some areas. These conditions will be accompanied by severe convective weather, including short-term intense rainfall and thunderstorm gales. Accumulated precipitation will range from 60 to 120 mm, with localized areas in central and eastern India and southern Myanmar potentially exceeding 200 mm (Figure 3). Precautions should be taken against secondary disasters such as flash floods, landslides, and mudslides that may be triggered by the persistent heavy rainfall.
