Heavy Rainfall in DPRK

From 20:00 on 23 July to 20:00 on 26 July 2026 (BJT), influenced by a low vortex shear line (Fig. 1), most parts of the DPRK will experience heavy to torrential rain, with localized extreme torrential rain. The rainfall will be accompanied by severe convective weather including short bursts of heavy rain and thunderstorms with gale-force winds. The peak rainfall period will occur from the afternoon of 24 July to the morning of 25 July.

The three-day cumulative rainfall is expected to reach 50–100 mm, with localized amounts exceeding 150 mm (Fig. 2). The areal rainfall over the DPRK side of the Yalu River basin will generally range from 51 to 60 mm (Fig. 3).

Attention should be paid to guarding against secondary disasters such as flash floods, landslides, and mudslides that may be triggered by the heavy rainfall..
