South Korea and Japan Experience Significant Wind and Rainfall Conditions
It is forecasted that over the next three days, influenced by the eastward movement of a low vortex (Figure 1), southern North Korea, South Korea, and northern and western Japan will experience moderate to heavy rain. Northern South Korea and northwestern Japan are expected to see torrential or severe rain, accompanied by intense convective weather such as short-duration heavy downpours. In most of these regions, cumulative rainfall is anticipated to reach 40-90 mm, with localized areas receiving 120-180 mm (Figure 2). During this period, winds of 5-6 on the Beaufort scale are expected, with gusts reaching 7-8, and coastal areas may experience winds up to 10 on the Beaufort scale (Figure 3). Attention should be given to the adverse impacts of the strong winds and rain on power facilities, transportation, and other industries in these regions, as well as the potential secondary disasters such as flooding, landslides, debris flows, and urban waterlogging that heavy rainfall may trigger.
