The United States and Argentina Will Experience Heavy Rain

Tropical Storm "Melissa" Will Impact the Caribbean Region

From October 23 to 26, influenced by an eastward upper-level trough, regions including the southern region of the central United States, eastern and northern Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and eastern Bolivia will experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas facing torrential or extreme downpours. Accumulated precipitation is forecasted to be 30-70 mm and localized totals surpassing 100 mm (Figures 1 and 2). This will be accompanied by strong winds of 4-5 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts of 7-8 and locally reaching 9-10 (Figure 3).

At 0000 UTC on October 23, Tropical Storm "Melissa" was located approximately 500 kilometers south of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It is expected that "Melissa" will move westward at a speed of around 5 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying. From October 23 to 30, under the influence of "Melissa," the Caribbean region is forecast to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas torrential or extreme downpours. Accumulated precipitation is expected to reach 50-100 mm, with localized areas exceeding 200 mm (Figure 4).This will be accompanied by strong winds of 5-6 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts of 7-8 and locally reaching 9-11 (Figure 5).

Precautions should be taken against the adverse impacts of strong winds and heavy rainfall on local power transmission and shipping traffic.
