Mongolian Plateau Will Experience Heavy Snowfall and Strong Cooling

From November 5 to 8, influenced by an upper-level cold vortex (Figure 1), a significant cooling and precipitation event is expected to sweep across the Mongolian Plateau from west to east. In central and northern parts of Mongolia, moderate to heavy snowfall is anticipated, with localized areas experiencing blizzard or severe blizzard conditions. The cumulative snowfall during this period is projected to reach 10-16 mm, with some areas exceeding 20 mm (Figure 2). New snow accumulation depths are expected to be 5-10 cm in some regions, with localized depths surpassing 14 cm (Figure 3). Temperatures in these areas will drop by 6-12 °C, with some localized arears exceeding 14 °C (Figure 4), accompanied by winds of 4-6 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 7-8. Precautions are advised to mitigate the adverse impacts of the strong winds, cooling, and snowfall on local power transmission, transportation, and livestock farming.
