Southeastern Canada and Northeastern United States Will Experience Snowstorm
Affected by the gradual eastward movement of an upper-level cold vortex (Figure 1), it is expected that from January 10 to 12, southeastern Canada and northeastern United States will experience moderate to heavy snow, with localized blizzard or severe blizzard conditions. The cumulative snowfall is anticipated to be between 5 and 15 mm, with some areas potentially exceeding 20 mm (Figure 2). Most of these regions will also experience a temperature drop of 8 to 12°C, with localized decreases exceeding 14°C (Figure 3), accompanied by strong winds of 5 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 8 to 9. Attention should be given to the adverse impacts of the severe wind and snow conditions on local power facilities, transportation, and other industries.
