Eastern Southern Europe and the Anatolian Peninsula are Experiencing Heavy Rain and Strong Wind
On October 7-8, influenced by the slow eastward movement of an upper-level cutoff cold vortex (Figure 1), regions including central and eastern Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, southern Ukraine, and western Turkey are experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with some areas facing torrential or extreme downpours. Accumulated precipitation is expected to range from 30 to 60 mm with some areas reaching 80 to 100 mm, and localized totals exceeding 120 millimeters (Figure 2). In these regions, strong winds of 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale are anticipated, with gusts reaching 7 to 9 (Figure 3). Attention should be given to the adverse impacts of the heavy rainfall and strong winds on holiday travel, power infrastructure, and transportation sectors in the affected areas.
