The remnants of Storm Claudia will impact southern Europe

 

Affected by Storm Claudia, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred in central and southern Britain on November 14-15, with localized downpours of 50-80 mm (Figure 1). Parts of England and Wales experienced flooding, with Monmouthshire being severely affected. Traffic was disrupted, and significant property damage was incurred. The West Midlands also suffered from flood impacts.

It is forecasted that from November 16 to 19, influenced by the upper-level trough and the remnants of Storm Claudia (Figure 2), parts of the Apennine Peninsula and southern Balkan Peninsula will experience accumulated rainfall of 30 to 50 millimeters. The eastern Adriatic coast is expected to receive 60 to 160 millimeters, with localized areas exceeding 200 millimeters (Figure 3). Specifically, central and southern Italy, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania will see heavy to intense rain, with some areas in Montenegro and Albania experiencing very heavy downpours.nnAdditionally, from November 20 to 23, due to the combined effects of cold air and warm, moist airflows, the aforementioned regions will continue to experience significant precipitation. Most areas will encounter heavy rain, while some regions will face torrential or very heavy rain.
