A cold vortex will impact Afghanistan and Pakistan over the next three days
cold air originating from high latitudes will lead to the development of a low-pressure vortex over Afghanistan today. Affected by this system, regions including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, eastern Afghanistan, and high-altitude or mountainous regions in northern Pakistan are expected to snowfall , with blizzards anticipated in the Pamir Plateau and the Kashmir region from the 5th to the 7th. Meanwhile, Punjab Province in Pakistan and Punjab State, and Rajasthan State in India will see moderate to heavy rainfall, with localized areas potentially experiencing extreme precipitation (Figure 1). Southern Tajikistan, central and northern Afghanistan, and central and northern Pakistan will experience significantly temperatures declines, with some areas likely to break historical low-temperature records for the same time of year.(Figure 2)
