Vietnam and Other Countries to Experience Severe Wind and Rainfall Conditions
Starting on November 15, under the influence of a stable and slow-moving tropical disturbance, central and southern Vietnam, Cambodia, and southern Thailand will experience moderate to heavy rainfall. In particular, central Vietnam and southern Laos are expected to see torrential or extremely heavy rain (Figure 1). In some parts of Vietnam, the duration of rainfall will be prolonged. From November 15 to 18, the cumulative rainfall in central Vietnam is forecasted to reach 100-150 mm, with areas in Quang Ngai Province and Thua Thien-Hue Province seeing 150-250 mm, and localized areas exceeding 300 mm (Figure 2). Most of these regions will also be accompanied by strong winds of 5-7 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 8-9, and locally exceeding 10 (Figure 3). Precautions are necessary to mitigate the adverse impacts of the severe wind and rain on local power transmission and shipping traffic.
