Central Myanmar will continue to experience heatwave during this week

The probability of rainfall will increase from the April 5, 2025

 

On March 30, except for scattered rainfall in Kachin State and Tanintharyi Region, most areas of Myanmar experienced sunny and heatwave with daily maximum temperature ranging from 35 to 38 ℃, and locally 40 to 42 in parts of Mandalay and Sagaing Regions (Figure 1).

It is expected that during this week (April 1-7), the north region of Karen State in Myanmar will experience mainly sunny to partly cloudy for the first 4 days, with Karen State, Mon State, and Tanintharyi Region experiencing showers, with accumulated precipitation of 3-8 mm, and locally 15-30 mm in the coastal areas of western Tanintharyi Region. From the 5th to the 7th April, under the influence of the southern trough, scattered light rain or  showers are expected in Mandalay Region, Shan State, Chin State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi Region. The accumulated precipitation in these areas is expected to be 2-8 mm, with locally 20-35 mm in the eastern part of the Shan Plateau (Figure 2).

In this week, heatwave with daily maximum temperature ranging from 35 to 37 will occur in Mandalay, Sagaing, and Bago regions, with local areas experiencing temperature of 39 to 41 .

 

Impact and Recommendations:

The earthquake area is experiencing heatwave. Since April 5th, the humidity will increase with the possibility of rainfall. It is recommended to take precautions against sun exposure, heatstroke, and implement cooling measures as well as disinfection and sterilization efforts.
