Hot Weather Expected to Subside with Increased Rainfall in Myanmar
Since early March, most of Myanmar has experienced predominantly sunny and hot weather. From Mandalay and to it’s southern areas, the maximum temperatures have frequently reached above 37°C, with some periods hitting 40 to 43°C. The continuous high temperatures days exceeded 20 days. Due to the prolonged high temperatures and minimal rainfall, meteorological drought conditions have rapidly intensified.
It is expected that during the upcoming week (April 8 to 14), convective activity in the Bay of Bengal will intensify, leading to increased moisture transport to the Indochina Peninsula. This will increase more cloud cover over the region, relief from the previous high temperatures. Southern Mon State and Tanintharyi Region will experience frequent showers, with accumulated rainfall ranging from 10 to 25 millimeters, and localized areas may receive up to 50 millimeters. From April 10 onwards, most parts of Myanmar will see light rain or showers (Figure 1), which will be beneficial for alleviating drought conditions.
The weather in the earthquake-affected area is hot and humid with occasional light rain. It is recommended to take measures for heatstroke prevention, cooling, and epidemic control disinfection.
