Significant Rainfall Expected in Myanmar and Northeast India
Affected by a low-pressure system over the northeastern Indian Ocean (Figure 1), from April 10 to 13, parts of northeastern India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and northern Thailand are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain, with localized heavy or torrential rain. Specifically, in Myanmar, areas including Mandalay Region, western and southern Chin State, northern Rakhine State, eastern and southern Shan State, Tanintharyi Region, as well as parts of northwestern Thailand, are forecasted to receive cumulative rainfall of 30-60 mm, with localized totals exceeding 80 millimeters (Figure 2). Additionally, on April 10 and 11, some regions in northeastern India and Myanmar may experience maximum gusts of 5-6 on the Beaufort scale.
It is forecasted that during the upcoming week, most regions in Myanmar will experience frequent rainfall. Specifically, Mandalay Region, Kachin State, and Tanintharyi Region will see persistent light to moderate rain, with localized heavy downpours. Attention should be given to the adverse impacts resulting from the continuous rainfall.
