The United States is Expected to Experience Severe Wind and Rain along with Intense Convective Weather

 

Affected by the combined influence of an upper-level trough and a low-pressure vortex (Figure 1), it is expected that from May 19 to 24, a significant stormy weather pattern will develop from west to east across most of the United States. Moderate to heavy rain is anticipated in parts of the central and eastern regions, with localized severe or extreme downpours in areas including South Dakota, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Parts of the central and southern U.S. will experience severe convective weather, including short-duration intense rainfall, thunderstorms with strong winds, hail, and tornadoes (Figure 2). Additionally, most of the Midwest will see winds of 5 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 9 to 11 in some areas (Figure 3).
