Philippine's Severe Heatwave Shows Slight Relief

Since mid-April, most regions in the Philippines have experienced persistent hot and high-temperature weather, with the number of days recording a daily maximum temperature exceeding 35°C ranging from 28 to 36 days, accompanied by relative humidity levels of 80-90%.

It is forecasted that over the next week, the subtropical high pressure will weaken. Most regions of Luzon in the Philippines will experience predominantly sunny and hot weather with thunderstorms. In some localized areas, the maximum temperature will still reach 35-37°C, though the extent of extreme heat will be reduced compared to the previous period. In Manila and its southern regions, the frequency of thunderstorms will increase, with maximum temperatures around 32°C, offering some relief from the heat (Figures 1-2).
