Eastern Indian Peninsula Will Experience Severe Wind and Rain Influenced by "Montha"

Cyclonic Storm "Montha" formed in the Bay of Bengal in the early hours of October 27, 2025. It is expected that "Montha" will move northwestward at a speed of 10-15 km/h, gradually intensifying and making landfall along the northeastern coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, between the night of the 28th and the morning of the 29th (with wind speeds of 23-28 m/s, equivalent to a cyclonic storm or severe cyclonic storm) (Figure 1).

Affected by "Montha", over the next five days (from 08:00 on October 27 to 08:00 on November 1, BJT), the eastern part of the Indian Peninsula will experience moderate to heavy rain, with heavy downpours in some areas and localized extremely heavy rain. Specifically, the eastern part of India, central and eastern Nepal, western Bhutan, and northern Bangladesh can expect cumulative rainfall of 30-80 mm, with some areas reaching 120-180 mm and localized totals exceeding 200 mm (Figure 2). Additionally, from the 27th to the 29th, the northeastern coast of Andhra Pradesh will experience gales of 6-8 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts up to 9, and some sea areas or regions may see winds of 9-10 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts of 11-12. Attention should be given to the adverse impacts of strong winds and rain on local power facilities, transportation, and other industries, as well as the prevention of secondary disasters such as flooding, landslides, mudslides, and urban waterlogging that may be triggered by heavy rainfall.
