Typhoon "KALMAEGI" to Impact the Philippines, Vietnam, and Other Countries
Typhoon No. 25 "KALMAEGI" intensified into a severe tropical storm on the morning of the 2nd. It is expected to move westward at a speed of approximately 25 kilometers per hour. By the 4th, it will traverse central Philippines, and on the 5th, it will enter the eastern waters of the South China Sea, gradually intensifying. Its peak strength could reach typhoon or severe typhoon levels (40-48 meters per second, 13-15 on the Beaufort scale), before gradually moving towards the central and southern coasts of Vietnam (Figure 1).
Affected by Typhoon "KALMAEGI" heavy to torrential rain is expected in central Philippines and its adjacent waters from November 3 to 4, accompanied by winds of 8-10 levels, with gusts exceeding 12 levels. Around November 7, the southern part of the Indochina Peninsula will start to be impacted, with moderate to heavy rain in central and southern Vietnam, southern Laos, northern Cambodia, and eastern Thailand. Some areas will experience torrential or extremely heavy rain, and coastal regions will also be hit by strong winds. The cumulative precipitation in most of these areas is expected to reach 60-120 mm, with some regions receiving 160-220 mm, and localized areas exceeding 250 mm (Figure 2). Attention should be given to the adverse effects of the intense wind and rain on power facilities, transportation, and other industries, as well as the potential for localized heavy rainfall to trigger secondary disasters such as flooding, landslides, mudslides, and urban waterlogging.
