Tropical Depression will affect Central and Northern Vietnam
Affected by a tropical depression (Figure 1), heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in central and northern Vietnam from August 29 to 31. Specifically, localized downpours or intense rain are anticipated in areas including Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Ha Tay, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh provinces. Accumulated precipitation in most of these regions is forecasted to be between 50 and 90 mm, with some areas receiving 100 to 150 mm, and locally exceeding 260 mm in central Vietnam (Figure 2). The eastern coastal areas of Vietnam will experience strong winds of 7-8 gales, with gusts reaching 9-10 (Figure 3). Additionally, heavy to very heavy rain is also expected in central and southern Laos, northern Thailand, and southern Myanmar, with localized intense downpours.
Attention should be given to the adverse impacts of strong winds and heavy rain on power infrastructure, transportation, and other sectors in the aforementioned regions. Additionally, there is a risk of secondary disasters such as flooding, landslides, debris flows, and urban waterlogging that may be triggered by the intense rainfall.
