Southern Africa is expected to experience strong winds, a significant temperature drop, and rain and snow
Affected by the eastward movement of an upper-level trough (Figure 1), southern Africa is expected to experience strong winds, a significant temperature drop, and rain and snow. It is forecasted that from June 7 to 11, regions including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, southern Angola, southern Zambia, southern Zimbabwe, and southern Mozambique will see temperature drops ranging from 6 to 10°C, moving from west to east and south to north. Specifically, southeastern South Africa, central Namibia, and central-southern Botswana can expect temperature decreases of 12 to 14°C (Figure 2). These areas will also be accompanied by winds of 4 to 6 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 7 to 8. In South Africa's high-altitude mountainous regions and southeastern coastal areas, wind gusts could reach 9 to 11 on the Beaufort scale (Figure 3). Southern South Africa and Lesotho will experience moderate to heavy rain, with torrential to extremely heavy rain in areas such as the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa (Figure 4). High-altitude regions will see light to moderate snow or sleet, with localized heavy snowfall. Eastern Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique will be prone to severe convective weather, including hail.
