On September 17, at the 4th China-ASEAN Meteorological Cooperation Forum, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) releases CMA Global Climate Datasets?(hereinafter referred to as Datasets), further promoting the global sharing of China's high-value meteorological data products. This also marks the first time that China's climate data products made available for international sharing.

Datasets encompass 6 categories of data, namely Global Surface Dataset, Global Radiosonde Dataset, Global Merged Surface Temperature, CMA ReAnalysis V1.5, FENGYUN (FY) Satellites Land & Radiation Dataset, and FY Satellites Ocean Dataset. These datasets will support international exchange, and provide application services such as meteorological early warning and disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as facilitate global research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and climate change studies.

Catalogue of CMA Global Climate Datasets

Datasets select independently developed products with sophisticated technology and reliable quality from 106 high-value meteorological data products of CMA. Among them, daily and monthly values of Global Surface Dataset and Global Radiosonde Dataset can be traced back as early as 1850, with the longest sequence spanning up to 176 years. Based on the compiled data from a global multi-source observational station network, Global Merged Surface Temperature has undergone spatiotemporal reconstruction processing to generate monthly global surface temperature gridded products since 1850, with a spatial resolution of 2°×2°, approximately equivalent to 200 kilometers. FY Satellites Land & Radiation Dataset and FY Satellites Ocean Dataset have undergone re-calibration and consistency correction of historical FY satellite data, forming products such as 5-kilometer land surface temperature, radiation, sea surface temperature, and sea ice.

Datasets target users engaged in meteorological forecasting, early warning, and in-depth applications of AI. It can be accessed through channels such as the English version of China Meteorological Data Network, the website of the World Meteorological Centre Beijing, and the English version of FENGYUN Satellite Data Service.?

CMA will continuously evaluate the application effectiveness and the smoothness of download channels for internationally shared data products, ensuring sustained high-quality data products and smooth sharing channels.
