Proposed Implementation Plan
An initial implementation of MMIFA will adopt a phase approach to deliver project outcomes up to 2026:
Phase 1 (2023-2024):
Develop a dedicated web portal for MMIFA to visualize NWP products with uniform presentation to enhance RA-II LDCs Members the better access to WMCs’s products.
Phase 2 (2024-2025):
(a) Develop integrated forecast products and experimental post-processing products to improve quality and usefulness of NWP in support of severe weather prediction;
(b) Set up an international desk on severe / high-impact weather forecasting demonstration for junior operational forecaster training.
Phase 3 (2025-2026):
(a) Exploration of using available global ensemble data to develop products for users to better understand the risk and uncertainty of the high impact weather;
(b) Application in use-cases and receive feedbacks from members on MMIFA products.
Application in use-cases and receive feedbacks from members on MMIFA products.
The MMIFA Pilot Project (PP) is under the overall direction of the WIPPS Roadmap (2022–2026) which will contribute to the development of WIPPS. It focuses on enhancing accessibility and application of WIPPS data products to improve capacity of Members especially the Least Developing Countries (LDCs) Members for enhancing forecasts of severe and high-impact weather that contribute to the development of impact-based forecast and early warning, as well as capacity development for implementing the Early Warnings for All Initiative.
It is planned that Expert Team (ET) on relevant fields will be established with participation of WMO RA-II members to provide technical expertise and advice to benefit the effective application of the MMIFA PP. Annual progress report will be submitted to illustrate the activities and MMIFA products so developed, and potential benefits of MMIFA to the RA-II members on WIPPS data products from WMC, as well as the integrated forecast products generated from the MMIFA PP.
