Project Objectives and Scopes

The WIPPS Pilot Project on Multi-Model Integrated Forecasting and Application (MMIFA) has three major goals:

(a) To enhance accessibility and effective application of WIPPS core data and products from WMCs for short- to medium-range weather predictions.

(b) To enhance capacity of NMHSs especially the Least Developing Countries (LDCs) in WMO RA-II for interpreting and utilizing forecasts of global deterministic models, global Ensemble Prediction System (EPS), multi-model integrated forecast products in support of severe weather prediction and early warning.

The scope of this MMIFA is for WMO RA-II region at the initial phase with the available global deterministic NWP model core data and/or highly recommended data in WMCs and will further extend to use available global EPS data.

The MMIFA is led by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) / World Meteorological Centre (Beijing) and the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO).  WMO RA-II members such as the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Thailand Meteorological Department have agreed to join the MMIFA PP. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in Lao PDR has also indicated interest to join.  New members are welcome to bring relevant experience or knowledge.
