The Second China-ASEAN Meteorological Forum

        The second China-ASEAN Meteorological Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi from September 12 to 13, 2018. The forum was hosted by China Meteorological Administration and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and jointly organized by the Meteorological Service of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the National Meteorological Centre, the CMA Meteorological Observation Centre, the CMA Public Meteorological Service Centre and China Meteorological Service Association. The events of the forum were attended by a total of 83 participants, including key leaders from meteorological and hydrological services of China and ASEAN Member States, representatives of the World Meteorological Organization,(WMO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific(UNESCAP), the Typhoon Committee and other international organizations, as well as representatives from Hong Kong and Macao of China.

        This forum themed “Monitoring of Regional Meteorological Disasters and Early Warning Information Sharing” aims to review the relevant actions implemented under the Nanning Initiative on China-ASEAN Cooperation in Meteorology in the past two years, plan cooperation in the coming two years, and focus on fostering cooperation in joint prevention of meteorological disasters and disaster risk management. The Technical Exchange Meeting of the China-ASEAN Meteorological Forum, the Meteorological Equipment and Services Exhibition of the China-ASEAN Expo, and the twelfth Session of the Joint Working Group on Cooperation in the Field of Meteorological Science and Technology between China Meteorological Administration(CMA) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment of Viet Nam were held concurrently. Cooperation & Research Center of CMA-ASEAN Meteorological Observation of CMA was launched. A demonstration training course on nowcasting techniques for disastrous severe convection weather in ASEAN member states was also held before the forum.
